Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is similar to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in that it amplifies a target DNA to detect the presence of bacteria, viruses, or fungi. A version of PCR was highlighted in the COVID-19 pandemic for its ability to detect minute levels of virus in patient samples.
