Building International Collaboration on Autonomous Driving Technologies

Autonomous driving vehicles (ADVs) are associated with a variety of positive societal impacts such as a safer and lower-cost transportation system. The research on autonomous driving must be viewed through a wide-angled lens, as a multidisciplinary technology, which could be considered at the crossroads of many disciplines such as transportation science, electrical engineering, information technology, software and hardware engineering, law, ethics, and philosophy. Therefore, collaboration is critical in finding solutions to the challenges that arise from making a car autonomous. This proposed project is to initiate and develop international collaborations on some key technologies of autonomous driving including but not limited to fault detection/tolerant control and human-machine interaction. This will bring benefits of economic expansion and innovation savings, as well as impact positively on the lives of Canadians.
