Rapid, automated cellular diagnoses of cancer remain difficult in remote settings due to lack of specialists and medical infrastructure. To address the need for same-day diagnosis of palpable mass lesions, we have developed an automated image cytometry system that allows rapid analysis of scant cellular specimens obtained by fine-needle aspiration. The system is devoid of moving parts for stable operations, harnesses optimized antibody kits for multiplexed analysis, and employs a user-friendly interface with automated analysis for rapid diagnoses. Following validation in mouse models, we demonstrate accurate human breast cancer diagnosis and receptor subtyping in as few as 100 cells within an hour.
