Research in theoretical elementary particle physics will focus onM/Superstring Theory and related supergravity theories. The M/SuperstringTheory provides us with the only known consistent framework forreconciling quantum mechanics with Einstein's theory of gravity and is avery important, promising candidate for a successful unified theory of allthe forces of nature.The underlying fundamental symmetries ofM/Superstring Theory will be investigated and these symmetries will beused to study the consequences of the theory such as the elementaryparticles that the theory predicts. Mathematical techniques that areessential for carrying out this program will be developed further. Atcertain low energy regimes, M/Superstring Theory can be effectivelydescribed by "supergravity" theories, which will also be studied.
