英文摘要
Project Summary: Energy-aware Synthesis of Embedded Systems onMultiprocessor Platforms Sanjoy Baruah James H. AndersonTwo evident trends in the real-time embedded systems domain are (i)the proliferation of multiprocessor platforms, and (ii) theproliferation of applications for which energy consumption must beminimized. In the years ahead, it is reasonable to expect these twotrends to converge: indeed, one major advantage of multiprocessorimplementations over uniprocessor ones is that the former tend to bemore energy-efficient. To date, however, the little work that hasbeen done on energy-aware multiprocessor designs has been limited torelatively simple table-driven scheduling schemes; a precisecharacterization of the energy savings realized by moving to amultiprocessor implementation is not known. These observations point to a significant need for research to beconducted on the tradeoffs that exist when designing energy-awaremultiprocessor systems. This project proposes to fill this need bydeveloping and experimentally evaluating design methodologies andscheduling algorithms that facilitate the synthesis of embeddedreal-time systems upon multiprocessor platforms, with the primary goalof minimizing energy consumption.Broader impact. Based partially on the results of this project, twonew courses will be developed: an introductory graduate course onembedded systems, and a graduate seminar on multiprocessor embeddeddesigns. The introductory embedded-systems course will be created asa follow-on to current real-time systems and advanced operatingsystems courses. The seminar course on multiprocessor designs will bea follow-on to the introductory course. A concerted effort will bemade to involve underrepresented groups in our research. Results fromthe algorithmic research will be disseminated through publications.Any software of general utility that results from this project will bemade publically available on the web.
