The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) has a need for supercomputing time, technical and software support, and training to carry out its on-going Computational, Energy Science and Virtual Demonstration Program. These requirements include an archiving system that must be available to store the data that will be generated and three-dimensional visualization capability to aid in analyzing simulation results. NETL supports the advancement of energy and environmental technologies through the application of high performance computing and communications (HPCC) among its other regional partners. The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) a Research Center of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), operates one of the leading supercomputing centers in the nation as well as nationally recognized Internet and Internet2 point of presence and regional network aggregation capability than can satisfy NETL's requirements for supercomputing time, technical and software support, training and outreach and coordination support. PSC will provide supercomputing time, technical and software support, training and outreach and coordination support to NETL as a result of this inter-agency transfer of funds to support this activity.
