AST-0504947Burrows, AdamUniversity of ArizonaMulti-Dimensional Simulations of Core-Collapse SupernovaeABSTRACTRecently developed fully 2D multi-group, multi-angle radiation/hydrodynamics codeswill be used to investigate the roles of progenitor rotation, aspherical neutrino emissions,hydrodynamic instabilities, and initial mass on neutrino driven mechanisms of corecollapse supernovae. The need for this work is motivated by the significant uncertaintiesin the process by which such supernovae explode (e.g., how is the stalled shockrevived?). Special attention will be paid to the role of rotation and anisotropic neutrinoheating on the viability of the supernova explosion. Beyond this, several other aspectswill also be explored including: resulting iron distributions, the degree of top-bottomasymmetry, different treatments/coding of the underlying physics, neutrino andgravitational wave signatures, and pulsar kick mechanisms. The work here will directlycontribute to the training of two graduate students, as well as improve our understandingof these important and complex events.
