Complexation of Reactive Systems

In this award, funded by the Experimental Physical Chemistry Program of the Chemistry Division, Prof. Kenneth R. Leopold of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and his post-doctoral and graduate research students will investigate the microwave spectra of a series of open-shell and closed-shell complexes. The complexes to be studied contain atmospherically important reactive species, and hence, these studies may yield information that will aid scientists in the calculation of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters for important atmospheric reactions. Besides the broader scientific impacts of the proposed studies, Prof. Leopold is expected to continue to train a number of young female scientists -- a group traditionally underrepresented in the sciences.
