This experimental research program focuses on the generation of multipartite entanglement, multimode squeezing, and non-Gaussian light by use of optical parametric oscillators (OPO) based on quantum cascades and quantum concurrences. The experimental realization of such states appears now well within reach and is one of the objectives of this project. Another flavor of coincident nonlinearities is cascading, long known for its ability to create nonlinear phase shifts. The program will probe the ability of such systems to efficiently realize effective third-order nonlinearities and generate quantum light with a non-Gaussian Wigner function, which is of great interest for implementing nontrivial quantum information protocols, such as entanglement purification, using continuous variables and bright beams. The broader impact of the program involves education of students and advanced course development as well as collaboration with engineering faculty.
