项目摘要
0606894NogueraThe proposed research continues the PI's previous research into a thermodynamics-based model to predict formamide dissociation curves, a key step in use of the FISH protocol, a molecular biology tool widely used in microbial identification studies. The concept was previously demonstrated for E. coli; the next step is to demonstrate the applicability of the same modeling approach to five other diverse bacteria/archea. If the work is successful, this project could significantly improve the efficiency of designing FISH probes and have widespread beneficial impacts. The proposal includes a plan to create an Internet tool to make results of the project available researchers in microbial ecology and environmental engineering.
