Single PbS and PbSe quantum dot optical spectroscopy

In this award, funded by the Experimental Physical Chemistry Program of the Chemistry Division, Prof. Todd D. Krauss of the Chemistry Department of the University of Rochester and his graduate student colleagues will study the unique photophysical properties of lead sulfide and lead selenide quantum dot nanoparticles. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop a solid understanding of the behavior of these particles with an aim towards answering fundamental science questions as well as towards developing a firm foundation of knowledge to enable their use in applications. Besides the broader scientific and technological impacts of the research being supported, the graduate research students participating in this research will act as mentors for two (grade 5-12) students through the Rochester Alliance Promoting Science mentoring program administered through the University of Rochester.
