Acquisition of Equipment for a Core Genomics Facility at Ohio University

A grant has been awarded to Ohio University under the direction of Dr. Sarah Wyatt to acquire instrumentation to enhance the Core Genomics Facility at the University. The instruments to be acquired include a genetic analyzer (DNA sequencer), microarray reader, and a variety of other support equipment that will be used in molecular biological research and education. The facility will provide a resource for 18 faculty in four departments of biological sciences at the university. Research projects include stress physiology, development biology, and the systematics and evolution of algae. The new instruments will provide ability to genotype organisms, sequence genes and DNA fragments, and study gene expression in tissues of a variety of organisms. The instrumentation will be used in several courses and provide undergraduate students with access tools for genetic analysis. The new instruments will benefit the career development of a number of women faculty, who make up more than a third of the investigators directly benefiting from the core facilities upgrade.
