US-Chile International Workshop: Expanding Geography Education Networks in the Americas; La Serena, Chile, May 9-21, 2007

This U.S.-Chile award will support a workshop organized by Dr. Michael N. Solem, Association of American Geographers (AAG), Dr. Osvaldo Muniz, Texas State University-San Marcos, and Dr. Fabian Araya, Universidad de La Serena in La Serena, Chile. This activity is designed to grow collaborative networks among geographers in the United States and Latin America. Workshop participants will learn the basic tenets of collaborative learning theory, work together to revise CGGE activities with geographical case studies from the U.S. and Latin America, and plan collaborative research projects. Co-support for this activity is provided by the Division of Undergraduate Education. The workshop will bring together a large number of participants, including students from both the U.S. and Latin America, introducing a whole new generation of students and researchers to topics in international collaborative education. Collaborations will be forged between researchers from both countries.
