Rebecca Carrier0700764This research focuses on the development of a micromachined substrate for the reconstitution of an intestinal epithelium using tissue engineering technology. It involves the use of micromachining techniques to fabricate a scaffold that mimics the unique spatial topography of an intestine. If successful, the reconstituted epithelium will have great potential as a tool to expedite drug development as an in vitro culture system to investigate drug transport. Completion of the work will enhance understanding of intestinal tissue and transport. Also, the foundation will be built for products that can be commercialized for rapid drug development or screening techniques.
