International Conference on Algebra and Related Areas

将于2007年8月18日至20日在北京举行代数及相关领域的国际会议。本次会议由清华大学、中国科学院系统科学研究所、中国国家科学基金支持。来自美国国家科学基金会的资金将支持美国数学家在会议上发言或参加会议。将有18位杰出人士发表演讲，涉及当前感兴趣的话题，如无限维李代数、顶点算子代数、表示论、代数几何、数论、计算群论、组合学以及代数在其他领域的应用。这次会议的目的是介绍代数和相关领域的一些最重要的进展，并讨论未来的研究方向。会议的一个主要部分是将数学领袖与学生、博士后和年轻学者聚集在一起，在一个激动人心的环境中。会议选择了两名来自美国大学的女教授作为主讲人，以便实现广泛的参与。此外，来自美国机构的资深数学家可以吸引和招募最好的中国学生来美国攻读研究生。会议将有助于加强美国代数界与中国之间的交流与合作。

There will be an international conference on Algebra and Related Areasheld in Beijing during August 18-20, 2007. The conference will besupported by Qinghua University, Institute of System Sciences, ChineseAcademy of Sciences and National Science Foundation of China. The fundingfrom the NSF will support American mathematicians who will speak or participatein the conference. There will be 18 talks by prominent people coveringtopics of current interest such as infinite dimensional Lie algebras, vertex operatoralgebras, representation theory, algebraic geometry, number theory,computational group theory, combinatorics, and application of algebra inother fields. The goal of the proposed conference is to present some ofthe most important advances in algebra and related areas and to discussfuture research directions. A major part of the conference focuses onbringing mathematical leaders together with students, postdoctoral fellowsand young academics in a stimulating environment.The conference has chosen two women professors from US universities asmain speakers so the broad participation can be achieved.Also the senior mathematicians from US institutions can attract andrecruit best Chinese students to do graduate study in US. Theconference will help to strengthen the communication and cooperationbetween algebra communities in US and China.
