This award provides support to conduct a proposal writing workshop on the campus of the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. The workshop, with a focus on young faculty, will span two days, and it will include general discussions on the differences between the various types of proposals, such as unsolicited, CAREER, IGERT, and so on, and a general overview of good proposal-writing practice by National Science Foundation Program Directors, a mock panel review, and an interactive part in which the participants write a summary for a research proposal they intend to submit and then review each others' summaries. The workshop will be hosted by the University of Alaska and the Kansas State University. It is expected that there will be 60 or more attendees, and a special encouragement to attend will be given to women, minorities and disabled persons.The workshop will help get young faculty from EPSCoR states a start in their careers. It will enhance their ability to compete for Federal grant money by writing better proposals.
