AbstractAward: DMS-0907300Principal Investigator: Wolfgang ZillerThis award will provide support for travel from the US to Brazilfor 20-25 junior mathematicians, with emphasis on graduatestudents and recent Ph.Ds, to attend the International Symposiumon Differential Geometry, which will take place in August 2008 atthe Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio deJaneiro. Lectures at the Symposium will present recentdevelopments within several areas of geometry, particularly thoseassociated with Marcos Dajczer, a member of the IMPA faculty whohas been a leader in the subject.The conference will provide a rich environment in which USgraduate students and recent Ph.D.'s can learn about newdevelopments in geometry, There is a tradition of interactionbetween mathematicians in the US and those in Brazil, and a goalof this grant is to foster new interactions between youngermathematicians and their Brazilian counter parts.
