Veterans in Engineering Education Initiative

This engineering education research project will create a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering program for military veterans supported by the Post 9/11 GI Bill. To address veterans' needs the project will create a start-to-finish, high quality 36-month accelerated course of study. Key elements of the proposed program are focused recruiting strategies with broad accessibility of program information, considering veterans' life experience, and creation of an intensive math bridge program with an on-line tutoring component to help retain students in the program.The broader significance and importance of this project will be to address a specific, targeted group of veterans, and get them quickly into the engineering workforce. The lessons learned from this program will inform the education community's knowledge-base on effective methods to structure programs so that veteran students have a high chance to succeed in engineering degree programs. The project specifically addresses skills in mathematics, which often present obstacles to degree completion.
