英文摘要
A number of projects in the planned priority program will investigate wildtype mice and genetically engineered mice strains and aim at studying the contribution of defined cellular components of the auditory system or of specific physiological properties to the overall performance of the auditory system. Here, we propose an integral project that will complement these highly focused projects by providing the infrastructure and resources to acquire in vivo electrophysiological data from auditory brainstem nuclei which might aid the conclusiveness of some experimental projects. The data acquisition and the analysis outlined in this proposal is a relatively new approach for studying the auditory brainstem. It combines the in vivo approach, i.e. studying the mostly undisturbed system with (almost) the analytical depth of studying cellular systems. We want to make this methodological approach available for other research groups of the priority program and at the same time contribute strongly to the networking within this consortium. While both the experimental procedures and the methods of analysis are thoroughly documented in a number of publications, the direct path to the masterful use of this approach is through collaboration on a specific topic. This task should be accomplished during the first funding period of the SPP and consequently the funding of this project should be limited to period.
