The subproject focuses on two main questions. On the one hand, it examines how Christian theologi-ans of the 4th century positioned themselves in relation to classical Pagan-Roman ‘otial practices’ (spectacula, balnea etc.). On the other hand, it deals with the relationship of these theological positions to the concrete, everyday practice of Christians of that time and analyses how Christian otium-practices developed between theological ideality and everyday reality.
