Dissecting the regulatory mechanisms of alternative polyadenylation and nuclear retention of mRNAs by SR proteins (B13)

SR proteins are central RNA-binding proteins that accompany mRNAs throughout their journey from transcription in the nucleus to translation in the cytoplasm. They thereby hold the potential to link subsequent RNA processing steps for nuclear surveillance. However, their functions beyond splicing remain poorly studied. Here, we will elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the roles of SR proteins in alternative polyadenylation and regulated RNA export. We will study the physiological consequences of these regulatory functions in the context of neuronal differentiation.
