今年度は、本研究課題「慈円における学問体系の研究」のなかで重要なテキストとして位置づけている『愚管抄』の基礎的な考察と、密教学の影響に関する考察を中心に行い、成果を二本の論文にまとめ、それぞれ公刊が決まった。特にここでは、前者の基礎的研究（書誌調査及び諸本分類）の成果を以下に示しておきたい。具体的には、島原図書館所蔵の八冊本『愚管抄』（以下、「島原本」）の性格および意義に関する事柄である。これまで「島原本」は日本古典文学大系（岩波書店）の底本として重視された写本であったが、原本の書誌調査の結果、取り合わせ本であることが判明した。「島原本」は、本文の行数や料紙の質感・厚さ、写本や題簽の寸法、蔵書印の有無が巻によって異なっているため、元は別々の零本や残欠本を取り合わせて揃い本を作り上げたものと考えるのが妥当である。これまでの研究では「善本」かつ「完本」と見なされていた島原本は、形態上、三種類の写本を取り寄せて成立した写本であったと位置づけられる。以上の書誌調査を踏まえ、新たに「島原本」の底本を解明する諸本研究へと展開することになり、『愚管抄』の主要な伝本を比較対照しながら考察を行った。結果、「島原本」の底本は以下の三種類の系統の本文であることが明らかになった。片面十行書（巻一・三）の底本は、東京大学国語研究室所蔵の阿波本の系統である。片面九行書（巻四～七）の底本は内閣文庫所蔵、林鵞峰旧蔵本である。片面八行書（巻一・二）の底本は、東山御文庫蔵の一巻本の系統である。いずれの底本も書写年代は江戸前期を遡らないものである。昨今は注目されることが少ない新訂増補国史大系の底本「文明八年本」（宮内庁書陵部蔵）の書写年代が江戸初期であることを考えれば、実は「島原本」が後出の写本であることは否定できない事実である。これにより、伝本分類に関する根幹的な再考と新たな底本の選定が必要になったといえる。
