本研究は、現代ピアノの多機能化と引き替えに本来の価値を失いつつある「減衰音」という最大の美質に着目し、その減衰の諸相を、「作曲」「演奏」の双方向からのアプローチで探究するものである。令和４年度の研究実績は、次のとおりである。まず、作曲の方では、令和３年度に実施した文献調査、様々なペダリングや打鍵の実践的研究に基づき、新作「Dawn Light（曙光）」を完成させた。本作において新たに試みたのが、ソステヌートペダルの可能性のさらなる探究である。ハーモニクス奏法の一種であるが、予め最低音域の弦が1オクターブ半にわたり常に開放された（ダンパーが上がった）状態になるよう鍵盤を静かに押さえた上で、棒状の物体をペダルの裏側に挟み込む。このようにして全曲にわたりこのペダルを踏み込んだ状態に固定しておくことで、鍵盤を弾いた際に常に仄かな残響が確保されるほか、両足がフリーになることで、ソステヌート（中央）の効果に加えて、ダンパー（右）、シフト（左）のすべてのペダルの同時使用が可能となる。さらに左右のペダル操作に柔軟性が生まれることでより微細な響きの折り重なり、混合、滲みのニュアンス、遠近法（響きの多層性）が得られることとなった。次に、演奏の方では、複数の調律師にヒアリングを行ったり実際に調律を依頼したりして、文献との照合を行ったほか、相応しい音律、調律について検討を行っていった。その成果として、令和５年３月には、新作を含む自作４曲についての試演を目的として演奏と解説を含むレクチャーコンサートを開催し、様々な音楽的効果について検証すると共に、令和５年８月の録音に向けてのシミュレーションを行った。
