『日本中世気象災害史年表稿』(藤木久志編)・『吾妻鏡・玉葉』・『鎌倉遺文』のデータベースなどを使って、史料に記された洪水・旱魃などの気象災害の状況と、年輪酸素同位体比から推定される降水量の変動および気温の変動とを対照・分析し可視化する作業を続けた。その結果、両者の変動パターンはほぼ一致しているものの、絶対値にあまり意味はなく、近い時期の中での相対的な降水量の変化が旱魃・洪水を引き起こしているのではとの仮説が得られた。これは農業社会の適応によるものか、それ以外の要因があるのかが今後の課題となった。昨年出版した『荘園』（中公新書）が反響が大きく、環境経済学史研究会や日本文明研究フォーラムに招聘され、気候変動と日本史研究について報告し、他分野の研究者と意見交換した。特に西洋史研究者との議論のなかで14世紀の転換が重要であるという共通認識が得られた。これまでの研究を概観し、気象災害からの復興・再開発の担い手の変遷と15世紀後半の機能不全について明らかにした研究論文を執筆し公刊された。また播磨国矢野荘について検注帳の分析と現地調査により、立荘時以来の開発の状況を跡づける作業を進めた。また当荘の故地である兵庫県相生市において矢野荘の歴史と気候変動との関わりについて講演した。水田二毛作の史料が残る紀伊国官省符荘について、磯貝富士男らによる先行研究を整理したが、コロナウイルス禍による出張制限のため、現地調査はできなかった。
