本研究の目的は、家計レベルの所得への「所得階層を下方へ移動するほどの外生的ショック」が、家計による教育投資の減少を通じて世代間の経済格差を再生産し、元の所得階層へ復帰することが困難になるメカニズムを定量的に明らかにすることである。そのために、①所得の急激な下方シフトを経験した家計が、将来的に子供の所得を決定しうる教育投資への支出をどのように調整するか、及び②社会的な変化を経験した家計が、将来的に子供の所得を決定しうる教育投資への支出をどのように変化させるか、を実証的に検証する。2022年度は、前年度に行った熊本県人吉市の水害地域の現地調査の結果を整理し、被災地域の家計の教育投資への支出及び被災地域の進学状況に関するデータ収集の可能性について検討した。しかしこれらのデータの入手可能性に制限があり、利用可能なデータの収集を検討中である。また、2011年東日本大震災の被災地域を訪問し、宮城県被災地域の市役所及び町役場での聞き取り調査を実施した。さらに被災者へのインタビューでは、震災後の環境の変化や高校生の進路選択の状況及び被災した学生向けの奨学金制度の利用についての聞き取り調査を行った。これらの調査結果をもとに、オンライン上での資料調査を進めるとともに、被災後12年が経過し、その期間における状況の変化や現在との比較を視野に入れた定量的な考察を加えるために独自に収集するアンケート調査の準備を進めている。
