研究計画2年目の2022年度は、まず、フランスの政府機関である歴史的記念物委員会が19世紀半ばに実施した写真アーカイヴズ事業「ミッション・エリオグラフィック」に関する研究論文が2022年7月に刊行された（執筆・投稿は2021年度）。そして、前年度から継続している先行研究の渉猟と、2021年度に実施予定でコロナ禍のため見送った現地史料調査のための事前調査に多くの時間を割いた。先行研究の渉猟では、インターネットを活用して文献資料を検索するとともに、必要なものは入手し、内容の分析を行った。また、現地調査のための事前調査は、先行研究の文献調査も参考にしながら、フランス国立図書館およびフランス国立文書館のデータベースを活用し、現地調査のために、現地調査で閲覧・入手する史資料をリストアップした。そうした研究活動を進めたうえで、2023年2月28日から3月12日にかけてフランス・パリに滞在し、フランス国立図書館（フランソワ・ミッテラン館）とフランス国立文書館（ピエールフィット＝シュル＝セーヌ館）で史料調査を行った。特に、フランス国立文書館では、歴史的記念物委員会が1851年から52年にかけて実施した「ミッション・エリオグラフィック」に関する公文書と、フランス国土整備・地方開発局（DATAR）が1984年から89年にかけて実施した「DATAR写真ミッション」に関連する公文書を閲覧・複写することができた。
