本研究は、近世・近代の神明造社殿を主な題材として、神社本殿の形式分類が近世・近代の神社建築史上においてどのような意味を持ったか、神社本殿の形式・造形が決められる背景にどのような論理が存在したか、といった点を解明しようとするものである。２年目にあたる2022年度には以下の作業を行った。１．昨年度に引き続き、近世の大工技術書および神道関連の文献を中心に、神明造など「○○造」という分類の用例を収集した。２．近世・近代につくられた神明造社殿について、造営時期や経緯、形態的特徴、関連史料の所在等の情報収集を行った。そのなかで、今年度は神明大一社（愛知県岩倉市）所蔵資料の調査を実施し、先に検討した日向大神宮（京都府京都市）の事例との比較を交えて論文としてまとめていくべく、現在整理をすすめている。同様に史料を用いて具体的な経緯について考察できそうな事例を他にいくつか見つけられたので、次年度以降に現地調査・資料調査の実施を予定している。３．これまでの成果の一部を『伝達と変容の日本建築史―伝わるかたち／伝えるわざ』所収の執筆原稿にて公刊した。個別の事例に関する情報収集や考察は地道にすすめられており、そのことによって徐々に時代ごとの性格や画期などもおぼろげながらイメージができつつある。研究期間の後半にあたる残りの2年間では、個別の成果を論文等としてまとめる一方で、総合的な知見をもとに時代的変遷などの構図を具体的に描くことを意識しつつ、調査・考察を進めていきたい。
