本研究は原爆の残留放射線被曝による人体への健康影響評価を疫学研究として行うことを目的としている。対象は原爆投下時に長崎市外や市内の山蔭など地形遮蔽地域に居た人で爆発時の直接放射線は免れたが、爆発直後に家族の安否確認や救援のため爆心周辺地区に立ち入り、環境中の残留放射線に被曝した、いわゆる入市被爆者とした。原爆被爆者データベースに登録された長崎市の原爆被爆者コホートから約1万5千人の入市被爆者を抽出した。評価の上での曝露要因である放射線被曝線量については、入市被爆による個人の被曝線量は情報がなく推定できないため、これに代わる指標として立ち入った場所、時刻および滞在時間(入市情報)を用いることとしている。また、アウトカムは1970年から現在までの長期観察によるがん死亡としている。個人ごとの死亡日、死亡原因の情報により、がんによる死亡までの期間について、入市情報との関連を評価する。評価では交絡要因となる性、被爆時年齢等で調整を行うと共に飲酒、喫煙などの生活習慣に関する情報の利用可能性も検討することとしている。入市情報については紙媒体をスキャンした画像を参照することができるが、データ解析に使用できるようデータ化はされていなかったため、本研究を実施するにあたりデータ化を行うこととした。 本研究は3年間の計画のうち初めの2年間で解析データを作成し、最終年度においてデータ解析と結果の評価を行うこととしていたが、入力要員の確保が難しかったことから、進捗が遅れた。初年度(令和2年度)は、対象の抽出とデータ入力システム等の開発など体制を整えた。令和3年度には人員の確保ができデータ入力を進めた。令和4年度には残りのデータ入力と誤入力の修正、整合性のチェックなどのデータ・クリーニングに着手した。
