被爆直後の米国陸軍病理学研究所(AFIP)の調査資料および1960年から1965年の長崎市被爆者調査について急性症状および被爆場所の地理情報に関するデータベースについて、これら二つの調査データの個人同定(リンケージ)手法について検討した。研究に先立ち、AFIP調査データの見直しを行い、これまで不明とされていたものについての充実に努めた。リンケージには資料間の共通項目であるカナ氏名、被爆時年齢(以降、年齢)、性別、被爆場所および被爆距離が利用可能であった。カナ氏名および年齢があったのはAFIP調査では7,333人および長崎市被爆者調査では16,403人であった。これらについて同定キー項目の選択および許容誤差についての検討を行った。AFIP調査における利用可能データ数は、カナ氏名および年齢が7,333人、性別が7,329人、被爆場所(町名)が5,149人、被爆距離が5,831人であった。長崎市被爆者調査については全項目について全てのデータが利用可能であった。濁点、半濁点を除いた氏名、年齢(3歳以内の誤差を許容)および被爆場所を同定キーとする場合を基準とした場合、年齢の誤差について、完全一致とした場合は、同定数はわずか21人であった。許容範囲を1歳とすると406人、2歳以下では671人、3歳以下(基準)では679人であった。カナ氏名については濁点、半濁点を除かない場合は24人の減少、性別をキーに加えた場合は2人の減少、被爆距離をキーに加え、誤差を0.5kmとした場合には160人の減少であった。検討の結果、最も有効なのは半濁点を除いた氏名、年齢(3歳以内の誤差を許容)および被爆場所を同定キーに用いることであると考えられた。
