戦後70年、戦争体験をめぐる語りの継承が喫緊の課題となっている。長崎においても被爆体験の継承についての考察と実践が始められているが、その困難さを指摘する意見も多い。私は、現在の被爆をめぐる語りの多くが、語り手、語りの内容、様式の各要素において似通っており、聞き手が語り手の個性を感じにくくなっていることが継承を困難と感じさせる一因であると考え、まず、被爆をめぐる語りを多様化させる試みを進めている。本研究では、今まであまり語られてこなかった「救護のために入市被爆した看護学生」による原爆救護とその後の人生史に関する語りを聴き取り、長崎における被爆をめぐる語りに加えること、同時に、看護学生、すなわち専門的な知識やスキルが未熟なうちに看護者として被爆の実相に立ち向かった彼女たちの経験が、その後の人生にどのような影響を与えたのかを検討することを目的とする。平成26年度には、まず、戦時下に日赤看護婦を志願することの示す意味を把握するべく、日本赤十字社の本部、支部、および看護大学などで資料を収集、あるいは、関連の研究会へ参加し意見交換をおこなった。その結果、当時の日赤看護婦たちにとって、「報国恤兵=国に尽す」という日赤の主旨が非常に重要であったことがわかった。他方、長崎にて原爆救護をおこなった元看護婦への聴き取り調査と、入市被爆し救護にあたった元日赤看護学生の家族への聴き取り調査を複数回おこなった。その結果、元看護学生が「救護に行ったので(私は)被爆者ではない」と話していたとの証言を得た。本研究においては、教育途上にあった日赤看護学生が自らを「被爆者」とは異なる位相で捉えていたことを明らかにした。これは「報国恤兵」を躾けられた日赤看護婦を象徴するものとして興味深い。また、この認識が、彼女たちが「語らない」原因となったことも推測できる。
