1930年代世界恐慌によって大打撃を受けた東南アジア各地の農村では、植民地経済からの解放を求める農民蜂起が頻発していた。さらに当時は東南アジアに共産主義が紹介された時代でもあり、各地に共産党が結成され、コミンテルンの指導によって世界革命を目指された。本研究は、アメリカ植民地であったフィリピンにおいて、コミンテルンから派遣された共産主義者たちは、これら農民蜂起とどのような関りを持ちながら共産主義革命を模索していたのか、世界的に見てもフィリピン史研究ではこれまで使われてこなかったモスクワにあるロシア国立社会政治史文書館（ルガスピ）の資料調査に基づいて明らかにする。ここに挙げたように本研究の根幹となるのは、モスクワにあるロシア国立社会政治史文書館（ルガスピ）における資料調査である。3年度目である2022年度の実績は、初年度、次年度に引き続き、新型コロナ・ウィルスの世界的な蔓延と、2022年2月に始まったロシアのウクライナ侵攻によって渡航が規制されてしまい、予定していたモスクワにおける資料調査を全く実施できなかった。海外への渡航も許可され始めたので、6月末から7月初旬にパリで開催された第12回東南アジア研究ヨーロッパ協会に参加し、“A ‘Failed’ Formation of a Communist Network in the Philippines during 1930s: The Correspondence between Comintern Agents and Filipino Communists”を発表し、有益なコメントをもらった。なお引き続き、日本での資料収集とワークショップを開催している。
