本研究の目的は、イギリスの図書館・博物館における英語を母国語としない成人を対象とした、言語教育プログラムを検討し、学習者の学びがどのようなものであるのか、またどのように異文化理解を促進しているのかについて明らかにするものである。海外の文化施設の取り組みは、地域の人々の異文化間摩擦を軽減し、地域参加に貢献することができるようなプログラムやカリキュラムを提供していることから、これらの取り組みを分析し、さまざまな文化的背景を持つ人々への教育のあり方を分析する。さらに、イギリスの図書館・博物館は、各地域で独自の教育プログラムを提供していることから、今後日本の社会教育施設にも求められる主体的・協働的な学びを促す双方向の教育プログラムの構築案を提示することを目標にしている。当初の予定では、海外、そして国内でフィールド調査を行う予定だったが、コロナ禍の影響により当初予定していたフィールドワークをすぐに実践できず、今まで文献調査を行なっていたが、今年度は当初の予定のようにフィールド調査を行い、そのデータをもとに研究発表をし、また論文を投稿する予定である。
