项目摘要

本研究は、南インドにおいて医療制度に取り込まれ、近代医療と同様に大学教育により医師が養成される伝統医療（アーユルヴェーダ等）と、公的には医療と認められない伝統的治療師(vaidya)の治療実践を比較することで、医療における制度のあり方について、社会や人間全体性の視点から考察するものである。単に治療効果だけでなく、個人や社会にとって、特に医療制度の枠にとらわれない医療が、制度的医療との関係の中で、いかに機能しうるのか、その可能性と限界について質的・量的データに依って議論することを目的としている。１年目は、ケーララ州の3つの社会経済状況の異なる地域で公的資料には現れない伝統的治療師の実態調査を行う予定であったが、新型コロナウィルスの影響でフィールドワークを行うことができなかった。そのため、現地カウンターパートとオンライン上で連絡をとり、コロナ禍に対する伝統的治療師および伝統医療医師の対応を含め、実際的な状況について情報収集を行ったが、分析に値するデータの収集には至らなかった。２年目も、現地調査を行うことができなかったが、コロナ禍への制度的・非制度的医療および村落部住民の反応などについて、オンライン上での現地カウンターパートからの聞き取りや現地の報道から情報を収集した。特にコロナ禍における伝統的治療師の役割について収集したデータを分析し、口頭発表した。3年目の本年は、８月と２月にフィールドワークを行うことができた。制度的伝統医療の医師と伝統的治療師の元で、特にコロナ禍の影響と対応を聞き取りするとともに、患者へ半構造化インタビューを行った。これまで継続して調査している治療者に加え、女性の伝統的治療師を抽出し、同様の調査を行った。これまでのデータをまとめ市場経済との関係を分析し、国際誌に投稿中である。
