言語運用における定形表現の重要性を先行研究から明らかにしたうえで、現代アメリカ英語から成る大規模コーパスCOCAで使用された定形表現の分析を行った。COCA全体、および、COCAに含まれる話し言葉コーパスやアカデミックコーパスなど８つのジャンル別にグラムごと（語数ごと）に出現する高頻度表現を比較した結果、定形表現の構造および意味の側面からジャンルごとの特徴が見出された。
