高齢者における回想にとどまらない、過去から現在、現在から過去につながる時間軸で想起を促す「連想法」は、認知機能低下防止とQOLの維持・向上、社会交流の推進に一定の効果があることが明らかにされつつあるが、文化や生活の異なる国の高齢者ヘの活用の検証はまだ行われていない。そこで北欧のフィンランドにおいて、高齢者の介護予防における「連想法」を実施するために、フィンランドの文化や生活に根ざした連想法の素材の開発とフィンランド人へのファシリテーター養成の視聴覚教材を開発して研修を行った。使用した「連想法」の素材は、家族（両親と子ども、祖父母など）、行事と文化（イースター、サウナなど）、趣味（音楽など）、食べ物（ラズベリーなど）、動物（トナカイなど）、自然（オーロラなど）、植物（ライラックなど）、季節（冬など）に関するものなどであった。研修内容は、連想法の意義、連想法の対象、連想法の実施方法、連想法の評価方法であった。連想法を多くのファシリテーターが理解する方法の一つとして、視聴覚教材は有効でありファシリテーターの連想法の理解が深まった。実際の素材を通してグループで行う研修では、参加者相互の想起やコミュニケーションを促進する方法を体験できるため、より有効性が高いことが明らかになった。なお、ファシリテーター養成の視聴覚教材は、英語で作成したが、フィンランド語で作成すれば、より効果的であることが明らかになった。
