本研究は、13～14世紀のローマ教会、とくにフランシスコ会による「宣教」がテーマである。そのため特に13世紀から19世紀にかけての宣教地を実際に訪れて調査することを主に計画していた。具体的には中国福建省・泉州、アゾフ海に面したタナイス、インドのタナ（現ムンバイ）、チャガタイ・ハン国の中心都市だったアルマリクのあった地域、ジョージア、アルメニア、メキシコ・ポポカテペトル山腹、ペルーのクスコなどであるが、コロナの影響とウクライナ情勢により、当該年度は現地調査が困難であった。年度の後半にようやく状況が正常化しつつあるイタリアで、とくにこれまで画像資料の不足していたヴェローナのフランシスコ会聖堂で写真撮影を行い、フィレンツェの美術史研究所で文献の調査をすることができた。また中国や中央アジアに滞在する計画を立てることができないため、シンガポールのナショナル・ギャラリーやアジア文明博物館でカトリック宣教についての調査を行った。時代的には近代にやや比重を移しつつあるが、次年度のアルメニアでの調査を視野に入れて、13～14世紀のイタリアとアルメニアの美術との関係について、文献調査を行っている。これまで国外出張を延期してきたため、当初予定した調査を研究期間内に終えることは難しくなっている。そのため渡航が可能になった後も、調査対象を部分的に遠隔地から日本に近い韓国やベトナムへと変更し、本研究のテーマの一つである大航海時代から近代にいたる時代の宣教地の美術作例について、18世紀後半から19世紀にかけての「再宣教」の文脈の中で「殉教」の図像を取り上げる方向で研究を進める予定である。

This study is about the church in the 13th and 14th centuries. From the 13th century to the 19th century, the mission site was visited and the main project was planned. The specific information is as follows: Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China, Fujian Province, Fujian Province. In the second half of the year, the situation is normalized, and the shortage of portrait data is not enough. In the middle of the year, the photo is captured, and the literature is investigated by the Institute of Art History. China's central government has set up a plan to investigate and educate the public. The proportion of the modern era has shifted, the survey of the next year has entered the field of vision, the relationship between the 13th and 14th centuries has changed, and the literature survey has been carried out. The study period was originally scheduled to be completed. In this study, the geographical discovery of the modern era of missionary art examples in the late 18th century to the 19th century, the "re-missionary" in the context of the "martyrdom" image, the direction of research, is determined.
