3年度目にあたる2022年度は、新型コロナウイルス対応策が緩和されてきたことを受けて、2022年8－9月に2回、2023年3月に1回の合計3回にわたり外国調査を実施することができた。調査先は、シンガポール（2022年8月）、ドイツ・オランダ・イギリス（2022年8－9月）、インド（2023年3月）である。まずシンガポールでは、シンガポール国立博物館、アジア文明美術館、シンガポール国立美術館を訪問し、研究対象である植民地インドとスリランカをはじめとする南アジアの植民地美術が、これらの地域出身者の主な移住先であるシンガポールにおいていかに展開されたのか、絵画作品を中心に調査を行った。ドイツ・オランダ・イギリスにおいては、植民地期のインドとスリランカにおける建築装飾として用いられた陶磁製建材であるタイルの技術的・様式的変化を明らかにするため、ドイツのドレスデン、オランダのオッテルロー、イギリスのテルフォードにおいて、陶磁器およびタイルに関する研究機関をそれぞれ訪問し、資料熟覧調査を行った。インドにおいては、シンガポールとヨーロッパの調査で収集したデータを踏まえつつ、イギリスによる植民地支配以外に、インドとスリランカにおける西洋美術の摂取と再編に影響を与えた要素を明らかにするため、ポルトガル統治の歴史を有するアラビア海沿岸部のゴアとコチを訪問し、植民地期の建築を巡見し、その装飾形式を調査した。これらの調査から、20世紀前半のインドとスリランカの美術様式は、当時の宗主国イギリスからの影響のみならず、イギリス統治以前からの西洋との接触による影響も少なからずあることが明らかとなった。本課題以前のスリランカ調査でオランダ製タイルが寺院装飾に用いられていたのを確認していたが、インドの建築装飾においてもそうした要素が少なからず確認できたため、さらに調査を進める必要があると考えている。
