项目摘要

2022年度は、前年度までと同様、東京文化財研究所が保存する狩野派縮図・粉本資料写真版の悉皆調査を継続し、東京藝術大学所蔵「常信縮図」第125巻「鍾馗」までの調査を終了した。これまでの各年度報告書でも記したように、狩野探幽の甥にあたる狩野常信は、江戸狩野家における絵画情報の集積と分類、現代で言うアーカイブスと画題のデータベース化に優れた足跡を残した人物である。その縮図類は室町時代以来江戸時代に至る狩野派の伝統の継承と革新の証左のみならず、本研究課題の源流である「和漢論」を論じる際の根幹をなす資料群でもある。土佐派の画風を貪欲に取り込んだことを伺わせる名所図が中心であった2021年度の調査に対して、2022年度の調査部分においては大和絵から漢画までを幅広く網羅した故事・人物に関わる画題が中心であり、その背景となる典拠を分析することで多くの示唆を得られた。たとえば日本でもよく知られた「鍾馗図」は、残存作例も多く、『常信縮図』においても十巻以上というかなりの分量が割かれているのだが、そこに建仁寺所蔵、俵屋宗達の傑作として知られる「風神雷神図」に類似した図柄や構図などが多く書き留められているのは興味深い。近世初期の狩野派において、風神雷神は鍾馗に関連する画題として理解することが常套化していたことが知られるのである。他方、2022年度に新型コロナウィルス禍が調査にほとんど影響を及ぼさなくなったのは秋以降で、夏期休暇期間に計画していた出張をともなう調査には一定の制限が続いていたため、当初計画立案していた調査はほぼ2/3程度の遂行に留まった。残りは2023年度で完遂する予定である。また、並行して実施した「銘」の研究は進展し、江戸時代の享保年間の日記に見られる「馬蝗絆」関連の記載を端緒とした論考「二次創作された東山文化の「和漢」――享保年間の「馬蝗絆」をめぐって――」を完成させた。
