本研究は、「地理的表示」の保護をめぐる法的課題について、①地理的表示法に内在する課題（内在的課題)、外在的課題として、②商標法その他の国内制度との交錯領域における法的課題（制度間分析)、及び③国際的な法規範との関係について検討を行い（比較法研究も含む)、地理的表示保護制度の体系的な理解を構築することを目的とした総合的研究である。この研究目的を達成するため、本研究では、①地理的表示保護の理論構築、要件論・手続論の検討、②他の国内法制度との制度間分析、③国際的動向と各国法の比較法研究を行うことした。2022年度も、予定していた海外調査はできなかったものの、国際的な動向の分析と各国地域・法制度をめぐる議論状況の比較研究について調査を進める一方で、これまでの研究成果の一部をまとめたものを研究書として出版した。八丁味噌や夕張メロンの例に見られるように、国内の名産品を、地理的表示の登録によりブランド化して世界の市場で売り出そうとする取組みは、近年、経済活性化の面からも重視されているが、地理的表示をめぐる法制度は、様々な国際条約や国内法が錯綜し、全体像を掴むことが至難の状況である。そうしたこともあり、この書籍では、国内外の議論状況、制度の相互関係を丁寧に読み解き、今後の制度設計を考えるための見取り図を描き、地理的表示に関する体系書となることを目指して執筆した。　書籍は、3部構成からなり、第I部「地理的表示の理論と法的形式」、第Ⅱ部「産地名の表示に関する国内制度」、第Ⅲ部「国際的保護をめぐる課題」、第Ⅳ部「地理的表示保護の将来像」より構成されている。大学の研究所から出版助成も得て、関係者に幅広く配布することができた。また、研究成果の一部を、日本知財学会　第66回定例研究会において「地理的表示保護制度と地域団体商標の活用の現在」と題して報告した。
