本研究は、わが国の金融システムにおいて重要性が高まっている資産運用業の特性及び関連する証券会社の特性を、実証的に明らかにすることを目的としている。本研究では、次の３つに注目した研究を行っている。（１）資産運用業の特性について生産性や効率性の観点から検証を行い、設立母体などとの因果関係を明らかにする、（２）資産運用業の成長を左右する投資信託のリターンの決定要因について、不動産投資信託との比較などから実証的に検証する、（３）大手の総合証券会社のビジネスモデルについて、変化の背景や成果の現状を実証的に検証する。今年度は研究期間の３年目であり、それぞれについて研究を進めている。（１）の資産運用業の特性については、資産運用会社のデータベースを作成して実証分析を行い、分析結果を論文としてまとめている。（２）の投資信託のリターンの決定要因については、データを整理して分析を進めている最中である。日本で投資信託を設定している資産運用会社についてデータを収集し、アクティブ運用に分類される投資信託商品の中でも残高の大きなものについて分析を進めている。（３）については、オンライン証券会社と伝統的な証券会社の比較をする実証分析を行い、その結果を論文にまとめた。専門雑誌に投稿をして受けたコメントを参考に、修正を進めているところである。また大手総合証券会社との比較として、地方証券会社についても実証分析を行っている最中である。
