本研究は、グローバルな視点で日本の社会変動を捉え、地域におけるグローバリゼーションの影響を検証することを目的として、越境的な活動に伴う地域の産業活動の変化について分析を行うものである。越境的な交流活動を通じて発展した陶磁器業の生産・流通活動ならびに関係性の変化について分析を行っている。陶磁器業が持続的に発展した地域（有田、名古屋・瀬戸）を調査対象とし、比較分析を通じて、越境的な活動の展開における地域の相違点が明らかになっている。行政の財政・制度的支援を受けて、海外の技術・生産設備を導入し、海外市場対象の生産・流通活動を重点的に強化する事例がある一方で、既存の生産体制と融合させつつ、段階的に新技術を導入し、海外における流通活動を展開する事例もあり、各地域の陶磁器業の越境的活動の特性が見られた。有田地域では、政府や地方自治体が陶磁器の生産・流通に積極的に関与し、行政による財政・制度的支援を受けながら陶磁器業の生産面における技術導入・設備投資や海外市場への販売促進を行う事例が多く見られた。名古屋・瀬戸地域では、地方行政による限定的な支援があったものの、民間資本による陶磁器の生産への設備投資・技術導入が中心となっていた。特に本年度の研究を通じて明らかになった点として、下記の2点が挙げられる。第１に、既存の陶磁器の生産者・卸売業の関係や慣行の一部は変容しつつ継続し、政府の財政支援・産業政策や当該地域の資本環境に影響を与えていた。第２に、当該地域の陶磁器の生産・流通の越境的拡大と生産技術の伝播・共有を通じて北米・欧州・アジア地域との相互交流が活発化し、その経緯・内容に各地域の特色が見られた。地域間の比較分析を通じて、行政の関与や地域の同業者間の既存の関係・活動が当該地域の生産・流通活動のあり方に影響し、各地域を拠点とした越境的活動の多様な展開が示されており、分析の結果をまとめている。
