项目摘要

2020年度は、追加の史料調査と研究成果の公表を並行して進める予定であった。しかし、感染症の流行により、前者についてまず海外での調査を断念し、国内調査に集中するよう再編せざるを得なかった。ところが、国内でも、府県を跨いだ移動が難しい状況となり、調査の中断や延期を余儀なくされた。その後、計画全体を見直し、特別研究員採用の延長および中断を受けながら、21年度末まで本研究を継続した。両年度中には、青森県立図書館、青森県庁（青森県史編さん資料）、および同県内の製材企業にてヒバ枕木生産にかかわる史料を得た。以上は明治中期の鉄道資材の調達について、その後の展開を考えるうえで重要な史料である。また日本鉄道線の誘致運動について、天童市立図書館、秋田県公文書館の協力のもと、山形・秋田両県の動向を示す史料を新たに収集した。以上により、まず上記枕木生産にかかわる史料の検討成果を鉄道史学会例会にて口頭報告した。さらに、研究書の書評および鉄道史学会大会の口頭報告にて、山形県における鉄道敷設運動の展開過程を考察した成果について公表した。山形県を対象としたのは、同県が最も早くから運動に取り組み、隣接他県の運動を惹起したという経緯、および県庁以下の行政組織を運動に利用したという特徴から、本研究の関心に照らして検討の対象とする必要があったためである。このように研究成果は適宜公表できたが、一方で当初予定していた査読誌への投稿ができなかった。しかし研究は進展しており、また成果も蓄積していることから、採用期間終了後、投稿論文の形で発表することは可能である。
