项目摘要

江戸時代の女性画家の場合をさらに考察した。彼女らが自らの作品に款記を加えるとき、ほとんどの場合「氏＝名字」を用いていることに注目したからである。身分階級制社会であった江戸時代、名字は原則して支配階級であった武士のものであり、庶民が公称することは禁止されていたが、特別に許可がある場合は庶民も名字を用いることが出来た。それとは別に勝手に私称する場合もあったと言われる。その場合、女性は生家の名字を名乗り、結婚しても夫の姓は名乗らなかったので、自ずから夫婦別姓となった。ところが、女性画家はそうした一般論に反して、必ずしも実家の名字を名乗らないことも多い。たとえば張（梁川）紅蘭の場合、書画の款記に用いるのは「張氏紅蘭」である。生家の姓の「稲津」でも、夫が用いていた「梁川」でもなく、「張」を用いることが紅蘭の意思であった。しかも、「張」が何に由来するかついては説得力のある説明はない。一般的に江戸時代に女性画家が用いた名字には来歴を明確にできないものが多い。池大雅の妻・玉瀾の「徳山」についても父が徳山某であったという話が説かれてはいるが、詳細は不明である。姉妹である八木巽所の妻・香川氷仙と森川竹窓の妻・三宅素琴が、姉妹でありながらどうして別の名字を用いる必要があったのかも不思議である。少なくとも彼女らが用いた私称の姓が氏素性を示すための重要な機能を担っていたとは考えられない。それに対して、清原雪信や櫻井雪保など、実家の名字を名乗る女性達もいた。清原雪信の場合、清原は正確に言うと母の父・神足常庵の本姓であった。彼女たちは狩野派や雪舟流などに属した職業的な絵師で、この違いは、南画系の張紅蘭などとは社会的なあり方あるいは制作に対する価値観が異なっていたことに起因するものと思われる。前近代における款記の具体的な例として、女性画家の場合も検証できたことは貴重であった
