本年度は、まず言語進化における語用論的要因の位置づけを明らかにするための研究を行い、その成果をJoint Conference on the Evolution of Language（言語進化合同会議）内のワークショップにて"Pragmatics Meets Multimodal Construction Grammar in Language Evolution: How Gestural Communication Decayed"というタイトルで発表した。具体的には、言語進化においてジェスチャー中心のコミュニケーションから音声中心のコミュニケーションへと変遷する動機づけを一般的な語用論の原理（会話の原理と言語使用の三層モデル）に求めるという内容である。次に、上記研究の理論的な側面を補完するため、言語使用の三層モデルに基づく日英語の言いさし文の違いについての研究を行い、成果を『比較・対照言語研究の新たな展開―三層モデルによる広がりと深まり』（開拓社）の「第3章　何を言い、何を言わないか―日英語の言いさし文と三層モデル―」として発表した。日本語の言いさし文と英語の言いさし文（に対応する構文）を比較し、三層モデルから原理的に説明されることを示した。また、ideophoneの周辺的事例（Haiman 2018）とされる英語のtwin forms（例:chit-chat）の多覚性を調査するための予備的研究を行い、成果を第10回筑波英語学若手研究会にて「英語の重複語の表出性について」というタイトルで発表した。具体的には、いままでの研究で明らかにされてきているideophoneの性質とtwin formの性質を比較しながら今後研究を進めていくための指針を発表した。

This year's "Pragmatics Meets Multimodal Construction Grammar in Language Evolution: How Gestural Communication Decayed" was presented at the Joint Conference on the Evolution of Language. The concrete theory of pragmatics (the theory of conversation and the three-layer theory of speech use) is based on the theory of speech evolution. The third chapter is "What to say, what to say." Japanese language and English language A case study of ideophone circumference (Haiman 2018) and a preliminary study on the polysemy of English twin forms (e.g. chit-chat) were carried out and the results were published in the 10th edition of the Tsukuba English Language Research Institute. The specific research on the ideophone and the twin form will be discussed and the guidelines for future research will be announced.
