本研究は、ベンガル語話者の言語表現を主な対象とし、第二言語習得における学習者の中間言語的特徴とその変容を明らかにすることを目的とするものである。対象者の母語（ベンガル語）と学習言語（日本語および英語）において、映像を用いた言語実験等の調査を行い、認知言語学的枠組みを用いて考察し、ベンガル語話者の事態認知と言語化の関連性を明らかにする予定である。コロナ禍で3年目までは思うように調査が進められなかったが、4年目にオンラインでの実験調査により、移動表現に関するベンガル語母語話者15名分のデータを得ることができ、その結果に基づき、移動表現におけるベンガル語の類型的特徴について、その一端を明らかにした。移動表現研究でとりわけ重要なタルミー類型論 (Talmy 1985, 1991, 2000) については、しばしば、様態動詞がさまざまな経路表現と共起する言語（=様態言語）と、それが不可能な言語（=経路言語）の類型などとして、その一部を中心的主張として取り上げて議論される（Levin & Rappaport Hovav 1995他）。しかし本研究では、ベンガル語が経路主要部外表示型言語でありながら、様態が主要部で表示される割合が非常に低いことを明らかにし、主要部で用いられる動詞の種類は類型とは独立して論じられるべきであることを示した。さらに、主要部で様態動詞が用いられた場合の着点句の使用も限定的であることから、これらの共起制限についても、類型とは独立して扱うべき現象であると考えられる。上述の結果は自立移動表現についてのみを分析したものであるため、今後、使役移動表現、視覚移動表現の分析も加えて、言語内の一貫性についても考察を行う。
