本研究課題について、昨年度に引き続き先行研究レビューを行い、また国際データを用いて計量分析を行った。まず、中所得国の罠に関して、懐疑的な先行研究の多くは罠ではなく成長スピードの停滞、またその要因の分析に着目している。例えば、Felipe, Kumar and Galope（2017）は罠の存在を否定して、経済成長の停滞と位置付けてその要因の解明を行っている。なお、本年度も世界銀行のデータを用いて実証的な分析を行ったが、その結果の一つとして、アジア諸国を含む中所得国の経済成長率は全体的に高所得国のものよりも高く、国際データによる記述データ分析では中所得国の罠の存在を確認することができなかった。また、アジアにおける経済成長と産業構造変化の関連性を計量的に分析した結果、工業化が経済成長の促進に寄与してきたものの、更なる経済成長に向けて脱工業化などの産業構造変化がみられることがわかった。先行研究で指摘されるように、通時的に低水準の所得レベルで脱工業化が開始される傾向にあることもデータ分析によって明らかにされている。本年度の研究では、経済成長に伴う工業化の要因として人口、投資、人的資本（教育年数）（いずれもプラス効果）が挙げられ、脱工業化の要因としても投資、人的資本（いずれもプラス効果）の可能性を強く示唆する結果が得られた。これらの結果は、工業化には労働投入、また脱工業化には教育などによる人的資本形成が影響することを示している。（参考文献）Felipe, Jesus, Utsav Kumar, and Reynold Galope (2017), “Middle-income transitions: trap or myth?”, Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, vo. 22, no. 3, pp.429-453.
