本研究は、アジア新興国を対象に、世界的に議論が高まっている「早すぎる脱工業」の存在とそのリスクを定量的に検証し、またその回避のための処方箋を示唆する分析を行うことを目的とする。本研究の学術的貢献は、早すぎる脱工業化に関して既存研究の蓄積の少ないアジア新興国について、１５か国および特定国（中国、タイ、ベトナム）の国内各地域を対象に定量的な比較分析を行うことに加えて、後発性指標を活用した脱工業化リスクの分析や、リスク回避の処方箋を具体的に示唆する分析を行うことに特徴付けられる。2022年度の研究実績については、第一に、アジア地域に焦点を当てて、後発開発途上国における「早すぎる脱工業化」のリスクについて、生産面の製造業比率を対象に後発性指標を用いて分析を行った。分析の結果得られた知見は以下の通りである。一つは、後発国の「早すぎる脱工業化」のリスクは、グローバル化の進展がみられた1990年代及び2000年代以降において確認された。二つは、製造業の比較優位を貿易収支面からみると、貿易赤字国の方が黒字国よりも、「早すぎる脱工業化」リスクの事象がより顕著に示された。三つは、地域別にみて、南アジア諸国の方が東南アジア諸国よりも、「早すぎる脱工業化」リスクの事象が顕著であった。そして最後に、近年のGVCのアジアにおける浸透が製造業比率の上昇をもたらしていることが確認され、アジアの後発国にとって、GVCへの参加が「早すぎる脱工業化」のリスクを回避する一つの処方箋となりうることを示唆された。第二に、タイの地域を分析対象として、「早すぎる脱工業化」のリスクについて、生産面の製造業比率を対象に後発性指標を用いて分析を行った。分析の結果、タイの後発地域において、グローバル化の影響や政府の地域産業政策の未熟さから「早すぎる脱工業化」のリスクの存在が確認された。
