私は「ハンセン病問題に関する検証会議」の作業部会にあたる「検討会」委員を委嘱された2003年以来、社会学者としてハンセン病問題の調査研究に従事してきた。2016年に熊本地裁に提訴された「ハンセン病家族訴訟」では裁判所に「意見書」を提出。2019年の原告側「勝訴」判決にも大きく関与することとなった。その延長線上で国は「ハンセン病に係る偏見差別の解消のための施策検討会」（2021年7月～2023年3月）を設置、私はその副座長に選任され、学問的成果を社会還元すべく努めてきた。しかし、新たな調査研究自体は、コロナ禍が長期化するなかで、身動きの取れない状況に置かれた。私のような参与観察と聞き取り調査を主たる方法とするフィールドワーカーにとって、コロナ禍は大きな壁となった。やむをえず、方針転換して、あらたな調査データの収集よりも、これまでの調査実績を踏まえて、研究成果を著作物にまとめることに精力を傾けることとした。2022年度には、共同研究者の黒坂愛衣との共著の『ハンセン病家族訴訟――裁きへの社会学的関与』（世織書房、2023年）を上梓したほか、埼玉大学大学院人文社会科学研究科博士後期課程（学際系）紀要『日本アジア研究』第20号にハンセン病療養所入所者からの聞き取りの記録2編を寄稿、月刊雑誌『部落解放』に連載「偏見差別をなくしてほしい――ハンセン病問題にみる人生被害」の第15回から第24回の10編の論稿を寄稿、さらに、一般社団法人千葉県人権センターの『月刊スティグマ』に連載「差別とは何か、偏見とは何か」の「その10」から「その16」の7編の論稿を寄稿。それなりに研究実績をあげることができた。
