本研究では、調査を基礎としたものであるため、コロナ禍で、ヨーロッパの入国、帰国が可能になるまで待って、調査を実施した。何とか実施できる方向を探って、オーストリア、イタリア山村での調査を行った。コロナ禍で、現地の協力者とメールでの連絡も途切れがちとなり、新たな調査地を探る必要があったことから、調査対象者を見つけるのは簡単ではなかった。日本の調査研究から、林業就労には技術習得が重要なポイントであるため、技術教育を行っている教育訓練機関への調査が欠かせない。日本と同様の職業高校制度をもつイタリアは、スイスやオーストリアと国境を接しており、また、北東部にドイツ語圏（南チロル、ボルツァーノ県）を有している。EUの教育制度改革はイタリアの職業教育にも影響を及ぼしており、林業教育も多くは農業教育などの中で行われている。このことは、日本の林業教育と似ているが、その教育の性質上、一部では林業教育に特化して行われているところもある。コロナ禍で、調査対象を見つけるのが困難であったことから、機関以外の調査対象地は一つに絞った。既にイタリア、ボルツァーノ県の隣県では調査を行っているが、大学等の高等教育を受けた林業女性がほとんどであったことから、林業労働者の事例を増加させたいと考え、林業や農業等の職業教育に特化した高等教育施設に絞り、調査対象施設を見つけ、学生への調査票を用いた面接調査と、現地で紹介された卒業生へのオンライン調査を実施した。また、これまでのヨーロッパの林業が盛んな地域（スウェーデン、ドイツ、オーストリア）での調査をまとめ、その研究成果を学会の大会で報告した。
