目的は、人口減少への対応として、人口を奪い合うのではなく子を産み育てる営みを支え合うための対策を看護の立場から提案することである。そのために、少子化のすすむ現在、島嶼に受け継がれてきた子産み・子育て文化を生きてきた高齢女性を研究協力者として選定、子育て文化の中核的要素を導くことである。一年目は、2島の島ごとに研究協力候補者を把握し、半構造化したインタビューを実施した。二年目は、コロナ禍で島嶼への渡航はできず、初年度のインタビュー内容をもとに、計画を見直した。今年度は、追加インタビューを実施し、高齢者の子どもとして育てられた体験、子産み・子育ての体験、子産み・子育てを支援した体験の語りを分析した。その結果、子どもとして育てられた体験は、「食べることが精いっぱいの時代であり、子育てされた経験がない」と“食べさせるのみ”であった。子産み・子育ての体験は、「産婦人科医師のいない時代で、自宅で子を産み、産後は、母乳を与える時のみは我が子を抱いたが、姑、実家の親戚などにあずけて、畑仕事や内職をし、夜には添え寝をした」と血縁保育ネットワークで、“食べさせるのみ”に“安全”が加わっていた。高齢者になった今、若い世代への子産み・子育ての支援は、「昔は、親戚や隣近所で自然い普通に放任していたが、保育園ができてからは、保育園でいろいろ教えているので口出しできない」と、血縁や地縁の保育ネットワークから集団保育で“学ぶ・遊ぶ”が加えられていた。現在の高齢者は、子育てされた経験は乏しく、我が子は血縁や地縁に育ててもらい、子育てをしたことのない世代といえる。そして、子育てを支援したくても、集団保育になり、子どもが減少し、子育てがしづらい時代になっている。そのため、子育ての支援は、“甘えさせて、食べさせる”ことが役割になっていることが示唆された。島嶼地域は、子育て文化が見えやすい地域といえる。
